What We’re Cooking for You This Week

Tuesday, April 14

Barbecued shrimp stuffed po-boy and a house salad.  Take a half-size po-boy, hollow the bread, stuff it with our own New Orleans style barbecued shrimp (prepped in loads of butter and spices), and serve it with extra napkins. It’s like a shrimp house boat floating in butter — you’ll want more than one, and you’ll want two forks to paddle it into your mouth.

IMG_0058Wednesday, April 15 — Hug Your Accountant Today!

Fried chicken tenders, signature potatoes, green peas with pearl onions, & honey buttermilk biscuits. Chicken tenders bedded overnight in buttermilk and hot sauce come fried in a special flour recipe and served with the old southern standbys of white-gravy potatoes, green peas, and flaky honey buttermilk biscuits. It’ll make you feel like you’re in Natchitoches, once upon a time in a movie, when Dolly Parton comes strolling down the street singing about ice tea and fried chicken made by fine, church-going southern women.

Thursday, April 16

Crawfish pasta primavera with house salad and S.H.E. bread. Me-yo, mi-yo, whoopsie-doo-da, me gotta go — or something like that. You’ll sing your way home after this heavenly dish of mud bugs and their veggie friends frolicking in a light tomato sauce served on angel hair pasta. This is really what Hank was singing about.

Friday, April 17

Salmon croquettes with a cream sauce, roasted broccoli, and a house salad. We managed to catch a few more vacationing trout sunning themselves at Lake Bruin. For the sake of good eats, we formed those tanned salmon beauties into patties with our own house made bread crumbs and seasonings and pan fried them to a delightfully crispy perfection — they come served in a creamy sauce with artichokes like my grandmother Namee used to make.

Dessert Offerings This Week

White chocolate bread pudding with raspberries, pound cake, and, of course, lavender scones served as strawberry shortcake. The white chocolate bread pudding had lots of folks running through the streets singing the great Sinatra favorites — we thought we’d add some more excitement to the town. Does anyone know “The Lady is a Tramp” — “She gets too hungry for dinner at eight. Loves the theatre and doesn’t walk in here late…she loves the fine, coo-coo wind in her hair”? White chocolate bread pudding will do that for you. Yep.

Updated Menu, Friday, April 10!

We’ve Got an Updated Menu Item!

Salmon croquettes, baked fresh ricotta and tomato, a garlic parmesan biscuit, and a house salad. Holy cow! Apparently humans have invented these things called airplanes, and salmon now fly south to hang in warmer climes. We managed to catch a few sunning themselves at Lake Bruin — we hated to ruin their vacations!  For the sake of good eats, we formed those tanned salmon beauties into patties with our own house made bread crumbs and seasonings and pan fried them to crispy perfection — they come served with a light, lemony butter sauce. The baked fresh ricotta (which we make ourselves) and tomato is a sultry stunner of a side dish — she may even take over the whole meal!

WHAT WE’RE COOKING FOR YOU THIS WEEK

TUESDAY, April 7 — Congratulations to the Duke Blue Devils!

Pulled pork sandwiches with jalapeño mayonnaise, and apple cole slaw. Slow cooked pork, pulled to tender pieces, house made barbecue sauce, and jalapeño mayonnaise on a hoagie bun form a delicious meal that makes the big bad wolf totally jealous. Add some apple cole slaw, and you will have a messy, but howlingly good meal.

WEDNESDAY, April 8

Bacon wrapped chicken tenders, creamy rosemary polenta, and oven roasted vegetables. Marinated chicken tenders wrapped in bacon, roasted to perfection and served on a creamy polenta with some wonderfully roasted veggies. Some of us may feel like that dog in the bacon treats commercial, “Bacon, bacon, bacon!” You know, everybody loves bacon, even if it doesn’t return the love. See the famous Shakespeare quotes about bacon below!

THURSDAY, April 9

Shredded pork enchiladas, Spanish rice with black beans, and cole slaw with lime & cilantro dressing. Shredded pork loin with a house made enchilada sauce lovingly wrapped in thick corn tortillas will help you rethink “pigs in a blanket.” Spanish rice cooked with tomatoes, green chilis, and black beans come complemented by a surprisingly delicious lime and cilantro slaw with fresh Mexican flavors.

FRIDAY, April 10

Salmon croquettes, broccoli and rice casserole, and a house salad.

DESSERT OFFERINGS THIS WEEK

White chocolate bread pudding with raspberries, outlaw brownies, and, of course, lavender and blueberry scones. The white chocolate bread pudding will have you running through the streets singing with Frank, “I’ve Got the World on a String.” If only all of us had a big band with a fabulous horn section for our life soundtrack!

Famous Shakespeare Quotes on Bacon

“To bacon, or not to bacon, that is the question,” Hamlet wonders when he’s making an omelet.

“Bacon, bacon! My kingdom for some bacon!” Richard III cries at the breakfast table.

“Bacon, bacon! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow,” Romeo moons as he finishes his midnight BLT.

“The better part of bacon is discretion,” Falstaff warns as bacon grease dribbles down his beard.

and

“Et tu, Bacon!” Julius Caesar yells as he gets the bad report from his cardiologist Dr. Brutus.

WHAT WE’RE COOKING FOR YOU THIS WEEK

Let us cook some bread, sides or dessert for you this Easter weekend.

Click here to see what’s available for your table.

TUESDAY, MARCH 31

Hamburgers served on Hawaiian bread buns, twice-baked potato wedges, and a pickle spear. Well, the burgers are hand-made from ground chuck, the bread is sweet and delicious, and the potato wedges are both crispy and creamy. If you are bold enough, you can add some bacon — and, if you’re really bold, we’ll add some SHE house made pimento cheese. Now, that’s a bacon cheeseburger that would make anyone happy.

WEDNESDAY, April 1

Chicken carbonara, house salad, and house bread. Bow tie pasta swimming in a creamy white sauce with lots of good friends — oven-roasted chicken breast, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, and green onions. A house salad and SHE bread rounds the offering nicely.

THURSDAY, April 2

Braised short ribs, baked garlic cheese grits, house salad, and SHE bread. Look, beef slow cooked in wine and veggies, baked garlic cheese grits, and a wonderful house salad helps the world keep turning. It sure does.

We will not be open this week on Good Friday!

Gumbo Train is Coming

Gumbo for Friday!

We Sold All our Gumbo on Wednesday, so we Made Some More…

Chicken & andouille sausage gumbo, potato salad, rice, and SHE bread. “The roux’s the thing wherein we’ll catch the conscience of the king,” Hamlet said, smacking his lips. The roux won’t help Hamlet make a decision, but this deep, dark roux will help you have a great hump day — add some rice, or potato salad, and you’ve got all the answers you need to all of life’s questions.

We’ve Also Got Salmon Today…

Salmon croquettes, broccoli and rice casserole, and a house salad. Well, we’re still fishing Bayou Bartholomew — who knew so many salmon migrated south for the winter?  We caught some beauties, and we formed them into patties with bread crumbs and seasonings, and pan fried to perfection — they come served with a light, lemony butter sauce. Add some broccoli and rice casserole, and you’ve got a great meal for a Lenten Friday.

Fried green tomatoes & slices of roasted chicken breast on a house salad with SHE house bread. A special delight of fried green tomato tartness served with sliced roasted chicken breast cooked with bone in and skin on served on top of a romaine lettuce salad with our house dressing makes a great lunch.

Cabbage rolls, puree of cauliflower with thyme, house salad, and SHE house bread. Yes, Peter Rabbit will be totally jealous of these homegrown savoy cabbage rolls filled with a seasoned mix of sausage, hamburger and cooked rice.

Spinach quiche, house salad, and SHE house bread. Quiche me, quiche me mucho, but it better be a healthy quiche!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

WHAT WE’RE COOKING FOR YOU THIS WEEK

TUESDAY, MARCH 17

Fried green tomatoes & slices of roasted chicken breast on a house salad with SHE house bread. A special delight of fried green tomato tartness served with sliced roasted chicken breast cooked with bone in and skin on served on top of a romaine lettuce salad with our house dressing makes a great, green way to celebrate St. Patty’s Day.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18

SHE Meatloaf, smashed potatoes, oven roasted carrots with sugar snap peas, house salad, and SHE bread. Randy got it wrong in A Christmas Story: “Meatloaf, smeatloaf,  double-beetloaf. I hate meatloaf” — our meatloaf is a heavenly blend of ground beef, bread crumbs, and special goodies that will make you want to kiss the frozen flagpole. By the way, you’ll want to eat the smashed potatoes like Randy does, fully face down in the plate. We’re glad to supply a bib.

THURSDAY, MARCH 19

Louisiana red beans & rice, cabbage, and hot water cornbread. The Louisiana red beans are complimented by our own pork stock made from flying pigs — and we’ve added some flying pig hams to send these beans into the stratosphere (by the way, they are non-gas causing beans because they come from flying pigs — the cabbage might make your evening toot-toot-tootfully exciting, though). The hot water cornbread will make you like Michael Flatley, dancing the river dance! Keep your shirts on, though, we don’t want to be on the evening news.

FRIDAY, MARCH 20 — TWO OFFERINGS TODAY!

Salmon croquettes, wilted baby greens with a roasted onion, and a house salad. Well, we’re still fishing Bayou Bartholomew — who knew so many salmon migrated south for the winter?  We caught some beauties, and we formed them into patties with bread crumbs and seasonings, and pan fried to perfection — they come served with a light, lemony butter sauce. Add a roasted onion served on top of wilted baby greens, and you’ve got a great meal for a Lenten Friday.

Fried green tomato BLT on SHE bread. Watch out! Iggy Threadgood and Tawanda are in town, and they’re making the best kind of trouble in the kitchen.

DESSERT OFFERINGS THIS WEEK

Strawberry short cake made from our lavender scone recipe, using sweetened whip cream and fresh strawberries. On Wednesday, a chocolate mousse will be lousse in the housse.

A house salad and SHE bread gives the feel of an early spring fling, just waiting for you.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11

Overnight Brisket, macaroni & cheese, lima beans, house salad, and a honey buttermilk biscuit. Our Overnight Brisket, slow-cooked in a special blend of spices and dark beer, will cheer your tummy and your table. Add to these lima beans and a honey buttermilk biscuit, and you might feel like grandma is cooking just for her favorite grandkid on Sunday afternoon.

THURSDAY, MARCH 12

Fried pork chops, mama’s rice, green peas with pearl onions, & buttermilk honey biscuits. These pork chops will rest overnight in buttermilk and seasonings before being ceremoniously fried in a special flour recipe and served with the old southern standbys of green peas and flaky buttermilk honey biscuits. Mama’s rice, full of rich beef broth and mushrooms, is its own food group. Yep.

FRIDAY, MARCH 13 — Two Offerings today!

Salmon croquettes, whole roasted carrots, and a house salad. Well, we moved our fishing operations from the Boeuf River to Bayou Bartholomew thanks to all the sleet and rain.  We caught some beauties, and we formed them into patties with bread crumbs and seasonings, and pan fried to perfection — they come served with a light, lemony butter sauce. Add some whole roasted carrots, and you’ve got a great meal for a Lenten Friday.

Shrimp tacos topped with lime cilantro slaw, black beans, and a house salad. As an additional offering for Friday, we corralled some more shrimp, whipped them into shape with some taco seasonings, fried our own tortillas, and added some tasty black beans for fun.
