August 8, 2017 Weekly Menu

Hey friends, we’re preparing some wonderful food just for you this week!  We’ve got a great week of specials from Mrs. Clélie’s kitchen. Here’s what’s cooking for you this week: fried pork chops with mashed potatoes, sandwich and wrap Wednesday, and stuffed poblano peppers! We’ll have a special taco soup available all week!

What We’re Cooking for You This Week

If you can’t make it for lunch, let us cook supper for you! Please give us a call at 267-4457, we’ll set aside some supper for you of our lunch special for the day, and you can pick it up at the shop after lunch service.

Our next delivery to Arlette in Monroe will be August 18!

Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, savory-sweet green beans, and a house-made biscuit. Blissfully slumbering overnight in a special saucy boudoir of buttermilk and seasonings, these pork chops will ceremoniously swim with their special flour bathing suits in a big pot of hot and lovely grease, and they come served with creamy mashed potatoes and savory-sweet green beans. Chef James Beard reveals, “If I had to narrow my choice of meats down to one for the rest of my life, I am quite certain that meat would be pork.” Preach on, dear brother.

We’ll have a very special taco soup available all week!

Sandwich & Wrap Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Sandwiches and wraps Wednesdays! We’ll have all our sandwiches and wraps available for lunch on Wednesdays. Try our very own version of the muffuletta made with our own bread and olive spread — then we add genoa salami, hard salami, smoked ham, swiss cheese, and hogs head cheese (it’s so much more fun than the traditional bologna). File this one under philosophical questions we never asked as kids: “If Cinderella’s shoe fit perfectly, then why did it fall off?” How else was she going to get the prince to her house?

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Stuffed poblano peppers with house bread and salad. Stuffed with chopped pulled pork, black beans, fresh corn, mushrooms, and Spanish rice, these poblano peppers will come topped with a light cheese sauce for a wonderful lunch. We garontee it’ll be good! Author Albert Montapert suggests a way to get ahead in the day: “Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.” There you go, put your problems in a  tortilla, add some eggs, sausage, and salsa, and whammo! You own the day — at least until you have to eat some more problems for lunch.

Hey friends, we’re preparing some wonderful food just for you, this week!  We’ve got a great week of specials from Mrs. Clélie’s kitchen. Here’s what’s cooking for you this week: chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, sandwich and wrap Wednesdays, and cannelloni stuffed with chicken, spinach, and Italian sausage! We’ll have a gumbo available all week!

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Chicken and andouille sausage gumbo with house salad and bread. We make our gumbo with a dark roux, chicken, sausage, and the trinity of bell pepper, onion, and celery. Oh, Grandpa Justin would add sauterne wine, a cup or two or three, and so do we. Someone once said, “People wait all week for Friday, all year for summer, all their lives for happiness.” Hmmm. We’d say, come get some happiness now since gumbo equals happiness. Yep.

We’ll have gumbo available all week!

Sandwich & Wrap Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Sandwiches and wraps Wednesdays! We’ll have all our sandwiches and wraps available for lunch on Wednesdays. Try our very own fried green tomato BLT. We toast our fresh house-made bread, add our house salad with fried green tomatoes and bacon to recreate the old standby BLT with a little bit of southern jazz. It’s hard to believe, but Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” from the Rocky III soundtrack topped the charts this week way back in 1982. It’s the training song from many of our own personal soundtracks as we rise to fight some seemingly invincible odd with a mohawk and an attitude. Well, we have a new training suggestion: the fried green BLT. It’s got plenty of swagger, pop, and drive — and, the really good part is there’s no training involved, just the song of the sandwich. It’s the “Eye of the Sandwich….” Bummm. Bumm, bumm, bummm….

Thursday, July 27, 2017

Cannelloni stuffed with chicken, spinach, and Italian sausage. Our freshly-made cannelloni comes stuffed with a  delicious mixture of chicken, spinach, and Italian sausage. We’ll serve the pasta with our own Alfredo sauce, and just a little bit of marinara to make things exciting. Hey, how about this one: cannelloni is a traditional Catalan (in Spain) dish made with fresh pasta, a filling (such as, ricotta and minced meat), and served with two kinds of sauces, one on the bottom (Napoletana), and one on the top (besciamella). Well, most of us probably already knew that, but did you know it’s a dish traditionally eaten on Christmas Day? Yep. It’s Christmas in July with these cannelloni. Merry Christmas! Or, should we say “Merry Cannelloni”?

July 18, 2017 Weekly Menu

Hey friends, we’re preparing some wonderful food just for you, this week!  We’ve got a great week of specials from Mrs. Clélie’s kitchen. Here’s what’s cooking for you this week: a special eggplant, zucchini, and pork loin casserole, sandwich and wrap Wednesdays, and pulled pork po-boys! We’ll have a wonderful vegetable soup available all week, and we’ll have crab cakes on Wednesday and Thursday!

What We’re Cooking for You This Week

If you can’t make it for lunch, let us cook supper for you! Please give us a call at 267-4457, we’ll set aside some supper for you of our lunch special for the day, and you can pick it up at the shop after lunch service.

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Eggplant, zucchini, and pork loin casserole served on linguini pasta with house bread and house salad. We layer fresh eggplant, zucchini, and pork loin in a casserole with fresh house-made sauces and just the right mix of spices, and serve it atop linguine pasta for a delightfully savory dish. Well, we couldn’t resist some pig jokes: What do you call a pig with no legs? A groundhog! What would happen if pigs could fly? Bacon prices would skyrocket! And, what do you get when you play tug-of-war with a pig? Pulled pork! Oh well.

We’ll have a special vegetable soup available all week!

Sandwich & Wrap Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Sandwiches and wraps Wednesdays! We’ll have all our sandwiches and wraps available for lunch on Wednesdays. Try our very own house-made hamburgers on jalapeño buns. Well, we make our burgers with a special mix of meat and spices, add our house salad, creole mustard, and homemade mayonnaise to a jalapeño bun for a fantastic burger. You can even add cheddar cheese, our own pimento cheese, bacon, or a fried green tomato. What’s better than home-made hamburgers, jalapeño buns, and lots of trimmings? How about this one: “I was driving when I first saw the flash of a traffic camera. I figured that my picture had been taken for speeding, even though I knew I wasn’t. Just to be sure, I went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly. But again the camera flashed. Thinking this was pretty funny, I drove past even slower three more times, laughing as the camera snapped away each time I drove by at a snail’s pace. Two weeks later, I got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seatbelt.” Yep.

We’ll have crab cakes with house salad available today and tomorrow!

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Pulled pork po-boys with apple slaw. Slow cooked pork, pulled to tender pieces, house made barbecue sauce, and jalapeño mayonnaise topped with our tart apple slaw on our own po-boy bread form a porkalicious sandwich that simply makes your week better by helping you slide faster into the weekend. Or, how about this one: ‘Late one evening, Norm’s doorbell rang. When he answered the door, he found a six-foot-tall cockroach standing in front of him. The bug grabbed Norm by the collar, punched him in the eye, threw him across the living room and then ran off. The next day, Norm went to see his doctor to have his bruised eye examined. “Ah, yes,” the doctor said when Norm explained what had happened to him. “There’s a nasty bug going around.”’

Hey friends, we’re preparing some wonderful food just for you, and remembering the first tournament of Wimbledon!  We’ve got a great week of specials from Mrs. Clélie’s kitchen. Here’s what’s cooking for you this week: Louisiana red beans and rice, sandwich and wrap Wednesdays, and white lasagna with fresh pasta! We’ll have a special shrimp and cucumber salad and ice cream sandwiches available this week!

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Louisiana red beans & rice with hot water cornbread. Our red beans come fully and deeply flavored, cooked in our own house-made smoked ham hock stock that will totally set the week in motion. Red beans and rice is an old Creole dish, originally created using the pork bones from Sunday’s family dinner to develop this characteristic Louisiana dish for supper on Monday. The beans and bones could simmer during the day while all the clothes scrubbing was done on washboards. Well, it’s not Monday, but these beans are ready to help you face the week, even all the laundry you put off over the weekend.

We’ll have a special cucumber shrimp salad served on a fresh tomato available all week!

Sandwich & Wrap Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Sandwiches and wraps Wednesdays! We’ll have all our sandwiches and wraps available for lunch on Wednesdays: chicken salad, grilled pimento cheese and bacon, garden fresh BLT, fried green tomato BLT, grilled chicken, our jalapeño bun hamburger, or our chicken bacon ranch wraps. This recording is found on an Australian tax help line: “If you understand English, press 1. If you do not understand English, press 2.” Yep. We think sandwich translates into any language as “good,” so come join us for some wonderful sandwiches on our house-made bread.

Thursday, July 13, 2017

White lasagna with an artichoke and spinach béchamel sauce with chicken and a puttanesca red sauce as the bottom layer. The milky smooth béchamel sauce has a few friends named artichoke and spinach over for an afternoon repast on fresh house-made lasagna chaises around the pool, and they are joined by some chicken and house-made ricotta with a scrumptious little puttanesca red sauce on the bottom. Well, way back in July 1877, The All-England club held its first tennis tournament at Wimbledon with a one pound, one shilling entrance fee, and a 25 guinea trophy. Out of a field of 21, W. Spencer Gore triumphed at Wimbledon on July 19 — after, of course, a rain delay. The rules of modern tennis started at Wimbledon, too. Dr. Henry Jones developed the size of the court, the scoring (based on a clock face), the number of games to win in a set, and even the idea of a service fault — and those rules remain virtually the same today. Tea and whites also remain part of the legacy of the early days of Wimbledon. We’ve got our own specially made tea and white lasagna — not quite the same, but close enough.

Chicken and dumplings, house bread, and house salad. These dumplings come seeded with herbs in a house-made stock and cream sauce, and there’s no more elegant and comforting way to celebrate this week with a sumptuous dish of house-made chicken and dumplings. Ever the wry one, comedian Steven Wright wisecracks, “I went to a restaurant that serves ‘breakfast at any time,’ so I ordered French toast during the Renaissance.”

Meatloaf with mama’s rice and roasted Brussel sprouts. Our meatloaf is a wonderful mix of beef, our own Stone House Eats house-made bread crumbs, and chopped-to-bits veggies. Meatloaf is mom’s way of hiding surprisingly good things in a bastion of beef covered in a sweet and sour tomato sauce flavored with Panola Gourmet Sauce. Well, this week, way back in 1953, workers at a GM factory in Flint, Michigan assembled the first of an American icon: the Corvette. Painted Polo White with a red interior, the car boasted a two-speed Powerglide auto-tranny, wraparound windshield, a red light to signal emergency brake application (something entirely new), and plastic curtains for the windows (something entirely lame). Interestingly, the two-seater was designed to be opened from the inside — it had no exterior door handles! Initial sales disappointed, but thanks to some competition from the newly introduced Ford Thunderbird and a later Corvette model with a V-8, GM developed a legendary car. That has absolutely nothing to do with meatloaf, but our meatloaf can go 0-60mph in 5.2 secs. Not bad for homemade meatloaf, and certainly faster than the original Corvette which went 0-60mph in about 10 secs.

Famous Quotes

Someone once said, “I love you so much I’d fight a bear for you. Well not a grizzly bear because they have claws, and not a panda bear because they know Kung Fu… But a care bear, I’d definitely fight a care bear for you.” Well, that’s love.
